 English does not come naturally to most Indian households, where the mother tongue has traditionally been the preferred language. This inherently makes English as a subject and teaching in a school environment absolutely vital. As students return to physical classrooms after the Covid-19 pandemic-infused lockdown was lifted, it is imperative to get them back into the practise of writing in English, while also focusing on speaking and reading skills.

Here are some general tips that learners could use to improve their English writing skills based on Burlington’s insights and research of several years.

Stay close to your grammar books: There is nothing like being abreast of grammar rules. It must not just be read but also practiced in workbooks or new-age webbooks. Teachers and parents must pick quality practice books that are made to international pedagogy while being aligned to local curriculum standards.

Read a lot, but also listen: Reading is one of the most effective ways to improve one’s grammar and writing skills. If you read aloud, it will not only help with better retention but also prove to be a beneficial exercise for enhancing your cognitive abilities. It is also suggested that you listen to English programmes, podcasts and audio lectures to build your vocabulary, and improve your overall fluency in English.

Avoid shortcuts, do your own research and writing: Refrain from copying someone else’s work. Attempt to write in your own words even if it seems simpler and less impressive. It is becoming increasingly common to lift content off the internet – not only is this a serious offense, that is, plagiarism, but it is also a serious blocker to becoming a good writer. Creative writing might seem archaic but it is one of the most effective ways to spur creative thinking leading to excellent writing and communication.

Keep it short, clear and straight: Over-explaining everything that you write induces boredom and often the crux is lost. One of the best ways to keep your readers engaged is through practising the art of writing clear and crisp sentences. Before writing, you must align your thoughts in the simplest manner to ensure that your readers comprehend your message. Re-read, question yourself, and find ways through which you can explain your thoughts lucidly and clearly while getting rid of extra words and sentences.

Editing and proofreading: These are the fundamental steps towards improving the quality of your written work. Proofreading your work allows you to identify mistakes, missing information, and any surplus words and phrases. To be confident about your work, you can also engage your friends and/or peers and ask them to review your written work.

These are some simple tips for learners to focus on enhancing their writing abilities which in turn is an essential element of English language learning. In a globalized world, the importance of learning to communicate effectively in English needs no reiteration. Language acquisition in the formative years of education is ascertained to last a lifetime, providing learners with core communication skills.

Common Universities Entrance Test Shift 1 has been concluded today, August 5, 2022. The examination was conducted from 9 am to 12.15 pm at various exam centres across the country. Candidates who have appeared for the exam can check CUET UG 2022 Aug 5 Exam Analysis below.

Expert Amitendra Kumar, Product Head- CUET & Under Graduate Programmes, Career Launcher said that the examination on August 5 was on expected lines, and to the relief of the students, the domain subjects were easy to moderate.

Section 1: English

English language paper in Section 1 had a focus on vocabulary and grammar. With 15 questions based on reading comprehension, the focus was to test one’s grammar fundamentals and vocabulary.

Questions were based on synonyms, antonyms, fill in the blanks, one-word substitution, spelling errors, figures of speech, para. Overall, the paper was easy, and students could comfortably complete the same in the given time. Some students even reported completing the section well before the allotted time of 45 min.

Section 2: Domain Subjects

Mixed reactions were received from students today, with some rating the papers in domain subjects to be of moderate level, unlike the earlier ones where most students had reported the papers to be easy.

Students found the Legal Studies paper to be easy with 4-5 questions based on the constitution, 3-4 each from International Laws, Arbitration & Legal Services.

History had mixed reactions. Some students found the section to be lengthy. But most of the questions were direct lines from NCERT.

Questions in political science were on the NTA Mock pattern. Chapters/topics that were given high importance were regional aspirations and democratic upsurge, and coalition politics. Around 60-70% of the questions were from the second political science book. Match the following based questions dominated with 8-10 of them based on the rise of new social movements & Globalisation and its critics.

Section 3: General Test

The general awareness section in the section had fewer questions about current affairs and static general knowledge with questions asked on Awards, Books & Authors, and Personalities. Numeral ability had basic questions; if one had practised well, they would have found the questions easy to solve. 4-5 questions were based on percentage, ratios, number system, time distance & Speed each. And an easy to moderate passage was there on set theory. And a couple of questions were also asked from geometry as well and were easy to solve. Reasoning-based questions in the section were easy to moderate. 3-4 questions were from Series, Coding, Direction sense & Blood relations each. And single questions were from dice & mirror images.

 The Council of Architecture will release the admit card for the National Aptitude Test in Architecture 2022 Phase III on August 5, 2022. The NATA Phase 3 admit cards will be available on the official website at nata.in.

The NATA 2022 phase 3 exam is scheduled to take place on August 7, 2022. The NATA Phase-III exam will be conducted in 2 sessions- Session 1 will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and Session-II will be from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The admit card for the phase III exam is scheduled to be released on August 5, 2022.

The NATA Phase 3 result will be announces on August 16.

AEEE 2022 result: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is expected to announce the results for Amrita Entrance Examination Engineering, (AEEE) 2022 on August 6, 2022.

Once released, candidates will be able to check and download their result from the official website amrita.edu.

The AEEE phase-1 exam 2022 was held from June 17 to 19, 2022 and the phase-2 exam was held from July 31 to August 2, 2022 in computer based test (CBT) mode. The exam consisted of 100 questions for 300 marks.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham will conduct the Centralised Seat Allotment Process (CSAP) 2022 after the AEEE 2022 results are declared. The registration process will also begin after the declaration of results.

Candidates will be able to access their result by entering the login details in our admission portal.

The last date to register is August 12, 2022. Trial allotment is scheduled to be held on August 15, 2022 and the first allotment on August 17, 2022. The second allotment will be conducted on August 24, 2022.

70% of seats in each branch is reserved for candidates with AEEE 2022 rank. 25% seats are reserved for the candidates with valid JEE Mains 2022 score.

3% of seats are reserved for the candidates with valid SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) score.

2% of seats are reserved for candidates with valid Pearson Undergraduate Engineering Entrance Exam score.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has reserved 85% seats for meritorious students who score high rank in AEEE 2022, top percentile/scores in JEE Mains 2022, top scorers in SAT and PUEE.

Agriculture is a major contributor to the national economy in India, creating a demand for professionals with sound technical skills in the field. However, there is a general lack of awareness about the growth and future prospects of the courses in the area. .

Here is a look at two popular courses in the agricultural arena — Bachelor of Science (BSc) Agriculture and Bachelor of Technology (BTech) Agriculture Engineering.

Course structure

BSc in Agriculture is a three-year undergraduate degree that is aimed at introducing students to the foundational concepts of agricultural science. It is an ideal option for a student interested in learning the fundamentals of agriculture.

Highlighting the structure of the programme, Deputy Dean at the School of Agriculture at Lovely Professional University, Chandra Mohan Mehta, said, “The programme aids students in becoming familiar with farming practices. The training received in the course will help them think about how to raise productivity and improve agricultural quality in a sustainable manner. They are taught how to farm using environmentally friendly and bio-safe practices.”

BTech (Agriculture Engineering), on the other hand, is a four-year engineering programme, which teaches students the methodology to use technology and automation in agriculture and food production.

“In this course, everything revolves around how technology is used in agriculture. Society needs a technology-driven agricultural process to suit the needs of all living things. This is the reason that B.Tech in Agriculture programmes are available in all Indian agricultural schools and universities,” Mehta said.

Higher education scope

Candidates who successfully complete BSc. Agriculture can opt to do an agri-business management course, a specialised Master of Science (MSc) degree in agriculture, or an MBA. They are also qualified to hold professional positions in public and private institutions.

The Agriculture Engineering BTech can help students secure jobs at National Seed Corporation, Food Corporation of India, the various state farm corporations, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), among others. Additionally, they can opt to take the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for admission to graduate programmes.

“Although there are many possibilities for further education, a BSc in Agriculture is a preferable option if the individuals are more interested in research as opposed to technical fields,” Mehta said.

India has some of the finest private and government agricultural colleges. BTech in Agriculture is offered at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University in Raipur, the Agriculture University in Jodhpur, ITM University Gwalior among others. BSc Agriculture is offered at the Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar, the Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University in Bikaner, and the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi, TamilNadu Agricultural University, Coimbatoreamong others.

Job prospects

Mehta said the BTech in Agricultural Engineering has “an edge over BSc. Agriculture in terms of employment options and compensation”.

“About Rs 3 lakh is offered as the average compensation package for these graduates annually. However, the average compensation package for BTech graduates in Agricultural Engineering might reach Rs 7 lakh per year. One of the reasons for this huge difference is the current need for modern techniques of agricultural farming. Tech graduates are paid more than their counterparts,” Mehta explained.

 CBSE Class 10, 12 compartment datesheeet: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the date sheet for class 10, 12 compartment exams 2022. 

The exams for both classes will begin on August 23. Candidates can check the entire schedule at the official website – cbse.gov.in

 On day 2 of JEE Main 2022 session 2, math continued to be on the tougher side. While physics and chemistry remained between easy to moderate level. Once again, a few students found the mathematics section difficult as quite a few questions involved lengthy calculations. Further, numerical based questions asked from binomial theorem, definite integrals and functions were lengthy and tricky, as reported by students. A few questions in physics involved lengthy calculations, thus making them tricky, said students.

“Questions were asked from all chapters with emphasis on chapters of calculus and conic sections. Circle, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola had questions with mixed concepts, In calculus, functions, application of derivatives, differential equations, area and definite integrals were covered. Few easy questions were asked in vectors and 3D geometry. Numerical based questions involved some lengthy and tricky questions from binomial theorem, definite integrals and functions as reported by students," said Ramesh Batlish, Head, FIITJEE Noida.

“A few students found the mathematics section difficult as quite a few questions involved lengthy calculation. About 7 questions from algebra included chapters of binomial theorem, permutation and combination sequences and series, as well as complex numbers. Three to four questions were from vectors and three-dimensional geometry and 2 from matrices and determinants. Questions generally involved the intertwining of two concepts. To score well on such a paper, a student should practise regularly and solve mock tests, said Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director, Engineering, Aakash BYJU’S Mathematics.

The physics paper was considered to be easy by a large number of students, added Sharma. Questions from class 11 and 12 were equally distributed. “Some numerical-based questions were involving elaborate calculations. A few students also reported that some questions were a bit tricky. About 6 questions from mechanics, at at least 2 from heat and thermodynamics, about 3 from electricity and magnetics and a good number of questions from modern physics, waves and sound were asked," he added.

The chemistry paper was the easiest of all, said Batlish. “Physical and organic chemistry were given more weightage compared to inorganic chemistry. Questions were asked from coordination compounds and environmental chemistry. Organic chemistry had questions from benzene, phenols, amines and biomolecules. Numerical based questions from physical chemistry were easy. Questions were asked from chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, solutions and mole concept. Inorganic chemistry had questions mostly from NCERT," he added.

Madhya Pradesh is all set to introduce the medical curriculum in Hindi from the new academic session. The state has become the first one to rebuild the medical syllabus in Hindi for the students who struggle to fit in with the English curriculum. On Republic Day this year, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced that the state will provide all medical education including MBBS through the Hindi medium as well.

Following the decision of the state government, Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal is the first college to implement the Hindi syllabus for the upcoming academic session. An official of the Medical Education Department told a leading news daily that the translation work of the English books to Hindi to fit into the curriculum is underway and is almost over. After the session begins, students will be able to get these books.

Madhya Pradesh’s Medical Education Minister, Vishvas Sarang had earlier stated that a 14-member high-level committee has been set up under the chairmanship of Madhya Pradesh medical education director Dr Jiten Shukla to constitute an action plan. As per reports, that admission in the new academic session will be done in both English and Hindi languages.

Apart from this, a total of 4,000 students of MBBS first year will have the option to study from either English or Hindi books. The report further asserts that this year around 60 to 70 per cent of students seeking admission in MBBS courses in the state are from Hindi medium. As per the plan, teachers will use the Hindi language as much as possible during their class lectures. Supplementary reference books of three subjects – anatomy, physiology and bio-chemistry will also be made available to MBBS first-year students in the Hindi language at a later stage. Various committees were formed to carry out this action plan.

The nationwide medical entrance examination, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was held on July 17 this year. The common entrance examination is conducted every year for the students who wish to seek admission to the undergraduate medical courses in the best medical colleges in the country. This time, students who clear the exam can apply for medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh if they want to opt for the curriculum in the Hindi medium.

Furthermore, not just Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand government too plans to implement the same. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, state education minister Dhan Singh Rawat had earlier said offering MBBS course in Hindi is on the state government’s agenda. An action plan will be finalised soon and the implementation will roll out from the 2023-24 academic session.

 Selecting a college for admission is never a simple decision. One has to navigate a complex admissions process for the list of preferred universities, and each one’s unique qualifying requirements.

With the introduction of the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET), many universities have changed their admission process and are enrolling students based on their CUET scores. Here is a list of the top 10 universities in India based on NIRF Ranking and their admission process.

NIRF INDIA RANKINGS 2022: TOP 10 UNIVERSITIES

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru: IISc offers Bachelor of Science (Research) courses in various disciplines. Admissions to these courses are given based on the candidate’s performance in common entrance exams including JEE Advanced, KVPY, and NEET. The college offers BTech in Mathematics and Computing through IIT-JEE Advances.  Admission into the IISc Bangalore is based on JEE Main 2022 scores.

JNU, New Delhi:  The Jawaharlal Nehru University comprises nearly 20 schools and centres of study offering over 100 courses with a wide range of specialisations. These courses are offered in various streams such as Arts, Technology, Management, Science, etc. at UG, PG, and doctorate levels. JNU application process for UG and Certificate courses takes place via CUET. Now the JNU admission can be taken by CUCET score. Candidates can visit the official website of NTA  at cuet.samarth.ac.in to register themselves. The application fee of JNU is INR 2000 for the general category.

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi: The total number of courses offered by Jamia Millia Islamia in both the regular and self-financed forms is 223. The University also provides distance learning courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and diploma levels. For admission to nearly all of the courses until 2021, JMI entrance exams were held. However starting 2022, admission to a few UG courses will be subject to CUET conducted by NTA.

Jadavpur University, Kolkata: Over 130 courses are available at the UG, PG, and PhD levels at Jadavpur University in Kolkata, encompassing a variety of fields including as arts, science, engineering, and technology. Students are admitted to the university on the strength of their academic record and their achievement on the entrance exam. Admission to all these courses is either based on entrance test scores or based on candidates’ performance in the last qualifying examinations. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore: Amrita University has five campuses in three different states and offers over 120 UG, PG, and PhD programmes. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham follows a comprehensive approach for admission to various UG and PG programmes. The admission process for a majority of courses includes Personal Interview (PI) conducted by the admission committee. The University also conducts Amrita Engineering Entrance Exam (AEEE) for admission to BTech programme.

Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi:  BHU offers a wide range of courses from many different streams, including Humanities, Social Science, Technology, Medicine, Science, Fine Arts, and Performing Arts. It has three institutes, 14 faculties, 140 departments, four interdisciplinary centres, a constituent college for women, and three constituent schools. In addition, the university has a large number of specialized research centres, 10 departments covered by special support programmes, and six centres for advanced study. Admission to these courses is either based on BHU UET or scores obtained by eligible candidates in course-specific entrance exams.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal: Admission to most of the courses is offered on the basis of the online Manipal Entrance Test (MET) followed by GD and PI conducted by the MAHE. MET 2022 Application Form has also been released online. Candidates can fill out the application form through the official website by paying Rs 600 (Rs 1400 for selected courses). In addition, the university also considers national-level entrance tests including NATA/ JEE Paper-II for B.Arch, NEET PG/UG, NEET SS, and NEET MDS for MD/MBBS/BDS, MS, MDS, and DM/M.Ch courses respectively.

lcutta University, Kolkata: Admission to Calcutta University for 2022 is currently open. For all affiliated colleges, the university has made the application form for admission to UG courses available. For UG admission, the deadline to apply is August 5, 2022. On the university’s or desired college’s official website, applicants can submit their applications online. On July 20, 2022, applications for Calcutta University’s BALLB admission will go on sale. Until August 8, 2022, eligible candidates may submit an online application for the position. Also being accepted at the university are applications for MBA and PhD admission in 2022. For MBA and PhD admission, the last day to submit an application is July 26, 2022, and the dates are July 19 and 26, respectively. Calcutta University will also shortly release the application forms for the 2022 M.Tech admissions cycle.

Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore: VIT Vellore offers a BTech program which is offered for a duration of four years via regular mode and in 10 different specializations of Engineering and Technology. Admission to the BTech program at VIT Vellore is strictly done on the basis of the merits secured by the students in the VITEEE exam score followed by general counseling sessions.

University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad: Hyderabad University, also known as the Central University of Hyderabad presently offers PG, integrated, and doctorate courses in the stream of Science, Management, Arts, Engineering, and Law across its constituent schools or departments. Admission to all the courses offered at the university campus generally begins in June every year, and the registration closes in August. Admission into UOH is now by CUCET.
